OptiCon Systems, Inc. (OTCBB: OPCN) the Talk of the Microcap Markets

by tomallinder on May 6, 2009

First of all, let me get this out of the way: I am not promoting OPCN, nor do I own the stock. I am not trying to do anyone any favors by writing about OPCN. There, I said it; that gives the whole piece an unbiased view.

A couple of days ago, on Monday, one of my business partners who now owns my old website, HotStockChat.com, asked me to send out an email on OptiCon Systems, Inc. (OTCBB: OPCN). Just an email saying that he had bought the stock and put out a trade alert on it; I did and have subsequently put out several more emails on OPCN.

OPCN is one of the most exciting things to come along in the microcaps lately. The microcaps have been tough and boring for the most part for the better part of a couple of years. But OPCN is far from boring; it is truly a hot stock if there ever was one.

opcnchartAs you can see on the chart, OPCN was a flatliner (yes, a new word from Tom Allinder- can you imagine?) until Monday. Average daily volume on OPCN was only a few tens of thousands of shares then, the stock closed up .08 to .17 on 607,000 shares Monday and closed at .265, up another .095 on a considerable volume of 3+ million shares.

What is making OPCN go?

First of all it seems that every promotional entity is promoting OPCN. No doubt that many have inflated or outright fabricated their disclaimers to make themselves look responsible for “the move” on OPCN. I have also seen the stock getting heavily promoted on a number of social media platforms as well. It is still true: If you get enough people shouting the same message from every nook and cranny in the world, eventually “the message” will be heard. Many people will get caught up in the hype and not want to miss out on the opportunity that exists to make a few bucks on a trade… Why not? The market has been so dead for so long that this gives a few people hope.

Maybe the hubbub surrounding OPCN will give other companies hope that their stock, may too, become a hot stock. Maybe it will give traders hope as well that maybe the market did not actually die and go to hell.
